To ensure your vote is counted in the 2026 General Election on November 3, 2026 follow these steps:

1. Register to Vote
In order to vote in Iowa's elections, you must be a registered voter.

This form must be turned into your local County Auditor. Find the address of your County Auditor here.
In order to qualify to register, you must be: a U.S. citizen, an Iowa resident, at least 17 years old. A person may vote if they will be 18 years old on or before election day.
2. Request an Absentee Ballot
Every voter has the option to vote absentee by mail or in-person. March 24 thru May 18, voters can request absentee ballots from their county auditor or download the official absentee ballot request form here.

Primary Election June 2, 2026
Request Absentee Mailed to home: March 24-May 18
Vote Early in Auditor office: May 13-June 1
General Election November 3, 2026
Request Absentee Mailed to home: August 25-October 19
Vote Early in Auditor office: October 14-November 2
Ballot must be returned by close of polls on election day by 8:00pm at Auditor's Office. Absentee ballots may not be turned in at polls.
3. Receiving and Completing Your Absentee Ballot
Absentee Ballots will be mailed out after the county auditor has received your absentee ballot request form, starting October 16.
To complete your ballot, follow the instructions included upon receiving your ballot.
To return your ballot, place it in the postage-paid return envelope supplied to you by the County Auditor. It is important you use the postage-paid return envelope. Sign and Seal.
You can return your ballot by:
- Absentee ballots must be received by the county auditor by 8:00 pm on election day.
- Mail your ballot in postage-paid envelope.
- Hand deliver your ballot to your local County Auditor during business hours or any time up until 8 p.m. on Election Day, .

Or, you can surrender your absentee ballot at your precinct polling place on Election Day and vote in-person.
- If you cannot surrender your ballot, you will be asked to vote by a provisional ballot.
Absentee Ballots cannot be delivered to polling places.

4. Voting In-Person
If you choose to vote in-person, you can find your polling place here.
You can vote from your car. Voting early or on election day. Before going to polling location call Auditor's office (641-683-0020) tell them you are requesting voting from the car. If you have mobility issues this allows you to vote from your vehicle.
